This is most powerful healing custom believed by the citizens mostly in Kandy the ruling area and the kingdom. How this Kohomba Kankariya has been started is not documented but according to the historical data they believe it goes back to 5th centaury started by the  narrative kings of Sri Lanka.

In the beginning the festival runs up to 65 consecutive days but gradually it was reduced up to 7 days to celebrate the paddy and harvest income of the year in any specific month of March to April.

For this event there are main generations grown up specifically under the command of the king and they have set up them selves to practice this auspicious event. they are "Berawa generation "and the " Nekathi" generation.

Berawa  are the drummers, dancers, and Nakathi are the chanting Manthra and continuing the super natural events.

This valued festival performs many functions.

Basically to heal the ill persons. other purpose is to get the benefit of wellbeing of the entire society in the particular village.

The festival has a religious and carnival atmosphere decorations, traditional oily sweets, fruits such as banana. The dancing platform is decorated by coconut leaves and banana trees.

This ceremony believed to be chasing away of evil spirits and to get the blessing from the god.

Someone can argue this is kind of mythology but this festival has results of turning the bad situations bringing the good luck to villagers also to get rid from the misfortune.

Overall this is a spiritual event contributes positively towards the wellness of  Sri Lankan village society.
